bio Overview
I was born and grew up in Paris, France. I studied History of Art, graphic design and visual communication, which gave me a strong plastic back-ground and the ability to teach all Fine Arts and its techniques for schools, museums, social and cultural associations.
After my formation, I directly learned couture and sewing techniques, by working as a dressmaker for several theater companies, where I developed my passion for textile and historical garments.
I had then, the opportunity to work as a stylist and a textile designer for luxury brands such as BALENCIAGA, LANVIN, BALMAIN, LAROCHE, SCHERRER, or LACROIX, where they taught me the excellence of Haute Couture: High expectative and technical constraint.
After being selected two time for the « Grand Prix de la Creation de la Ville de Paris »,
I created, in 2008, my own label Olivia Meyer, an interactive couture always in process.
I leaved Paris with all my staff and my grand-mother sewing machine, to travel around the world, where I constantly established my couture workshop and fashion design training, for different audience, from South America to Middle-Est.
Arrived in Istanbul for ten days in holiday, I get so seduce by the cultural vibrancy of this amazing city, which connect Nord-South-Est-West sensitivities, that I stayed six years.
I designed and produced several collections of unique pieces for unique personalities, mixing all the fabrics and inspirations that I collected on the road.
I became Head of the Fashion Design Department for a small vocational university in Bursa, where I built my design classes by listening the students and their needs and by using my skills in the field of Art of fashion, to catch the point of what to transmit.
I started, as well, to write the course of History, Culture and Philosophy of Fashion and Luxury, that I teach now since more than ten years for several Art and Fashion schools around the world.
As a traveller-designer-lecturer, I continue to research and develop design workshops, always in tune for the unexpected, with the same passion and energy to train future artists and designers to figure out their own vocational path.
As a teacher and a designer, I bring out my couture design problem in class and discuss about it with a unique objective: to commit my students to become the designer and the person they have to be.
